The robot Romo use your phone as his brain and by leveraging the power of the iphone's processor. They can create a robot that is wifi enabled and computer vision-capable for 150 bucks which is about 1% of what these kinds of robots have spent in the past.
It can also connect him from any other ios device such as ipad to control it. Romo will actually stream video to this device, people can see everything that Romo sees.
Isn't this a bit creepy? What kind of experience do you have by watching what is streamed by a remote phone? Do you think this has anything in common with the discussion we are having about drones?
ReplyDeleteCould you post the link to the TED lecture here too??
ReplyDeleteDo you think it could be combine with Siri so you can actually talk to your robot? For me I think it's just a fun technology to be honest because I can not see any big contribution it's gonna bring to people. Anyway with a reasonable price, I think they can make it big in some market.
ReplyDeleteWhat is shown here is quite dumb, in my opinion, but it is indicative of the types of technology which are being developed: remote accessibility, personalised technology, internet of things, AI, technology as companionship. What would anyone want their smartphone to be their "friend"? Why can't we interact with people anymore?
